CSU San Marcos Accepting Applications for Accelerated Bachelor of Science (ABSN) in Nursing Program

SAN MARCOS, CA, September 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- California State University San Marcos is hosting an information session on Sept. 14 for its accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. The accelerated BSN allows college graduates with degrees in other disciplines to quickly obtain a second Bachelor's degree in nursing. Applications are being accepted for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 terms for both the Temecula and San Marcos campus. Interested students should apply quickly since space in the program is limited.

One of the unique benefits of the CSUSM program is its use of the "cohort" model. This model places accepted students into groups, known as cohorts. The students in each group take classes and progress toward graduation together. This allows students to form close bonds, often resulting in strong ties and a well-defined support system throughout the program and beyond. Currently, two cohorts are being planned for the Spring 2013 semester, one at the Temecula campus and one at the San Marcos campus.

The accelerated program is fast-paced and strives to quickly prepare students to enter the healthcare field. It is funded in part by a generous grant from the Kaiser Foundation. In 24 months, students that hold a Bachelor's degree can complete the required coursework, with no previous healthcare training, and obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree from CSUSM. Completion of the degree program (78 semester units) will qualify students to take the NCLEX exam for licensure as an RN. The nursing degree program consists of both classroom learning and practical experience.

The information session, which takes place Sept. 14 at the CSU San Marcos campus, will enable interested students to learn more, meet current students and ask any questions about obtaining a nursing degree in San Diego. Several information sessions have been scheduled for both the San Marcos and Temecula campuses.
