HAARLEM, NETHERLANDS, September 24, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marijke M.G. Pubben, the Vice President of EMEA Quality at Merck & Co., Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in quality management for the pharmaceutical industry.

In April 2010, Marijke Pubben was promoted to her current position as VP of EMEA Quality with Merck & Company Incorporated. Her tenure with the pharmaceuticals company has given her the opportunity to serve in numerous leadership capacities, including as manufacturing area head, supply chain director, executive director and the executive director of EMEA and global emerging markets. Over the course of her career, Ms. Pubben has become known for her ability to effectively manage a multinational and multicultural management team in a business environment with increasing regulatory, technology and business complexity. She was a key member in the development and transformation of leadership, cultural and capabilities characteristics that enabled successful implementation of the Merck Supply Strategy, and was directly involved in the introduction of the Diversity Strategy, which maximized innovation and results by enhancing Merck's reputation and accelerating leadership development.

Now well recognized by worldwide customers and regulatory agencies is the build quality that Ms. Pubben has branded into Merck's products and services. She has realized successful FDA and EU pre-approval inspections for several major Merck brand products, and she currently provides overall leadership and direction for the Merck Quality function in the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) regions regarding pharmaceutical products, vaccines and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API's). Adept at controlling operations and working with other professionals in the European Union, Ms. Pubben is at the forefront of delivering exemplary quality management services for Merck & Co. Ms. Pubben's goal for the future is to be promoted to the head of quality at Merck or work in other international areas of the company, and she is also considering starting her own business.

Attributing her success to her determination to make lasting contributions to her field, Ms. Pubben also credits her long-standing interest in the pharmaceutical business and the scientific world. A registered pharmacist, Ms. Pubben completed the executive development program in executive management at INSEAD and earned a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Universiteit Utrecht. She is a member of the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences, European Executive Council and sits on the scientific advisory board for International Course Quality Management Pharma and Biotech.

In her free time, Ms. Pubben volunteers with Rotary Club International and enjoys reading, photography and attending the theater.
