Canine Dimensions of Colorado Announces New Dog Swimming Program

New program aims to curtail the instances of dogs frantically swimming and fearful for their lives as they wait for help to arrive.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 28, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Canine Dimensions, a dog training company founded in 1996 with offices in 11 states, has introduced a new dog swimming program for dog owners in Colorado. Working with canines and their owners throughout the Denver metropolitan region, there are two goals for the program: One, to make it a positive experience so the dogs will want to swim; Two, if the dogs find themselves in a pool, to have them know how to use the stairs to get out. That's how a lot of dogs drown, because they get too tired and are unable to find a way out of the pool or body of water.

Audi Cox, a dog trainer in Denver with Canine Dimensions, says, "It may surprise you, but not all dogs are good swimmers. In fact, it's estimated that thousands of dogs in the U.S. die each year because they haven't been properly trained."

The dog swimming training program ensures that each dog feels comfortable in the beginning of the program by making them wear lifejackets. Some dogs don' t like water in their ear so the program also provides swim caps to keep water out of their ears. These swim caps are used as pointers and area a great distraction for dogs. Additional tools such as tennis balls are also used during the training sessions to attract the dogs into the water.

The dog trainers at Canine Dimensions suggest pet owners train their dog as early as possible as it is more difficult to train older dogs. The trainers also recommend that owners stay for the lessons to help ease their dog's nervousness, which will make the progress go smoother and will provide better long-term results.
