New online resource for Icelandic music

A government-sponsored body which promotes Icelandic music abroad has this week launched a fully-comprehensive website dedicated to every aspect of the Icelandic music industry.

/24-7PressRelease/ - REYKJAVIK, ICELAND, July 21, 2007 - Icelandicmusic.is is the name of a new website launched on Wednesday to help satisfy the increasing global appetite for information on music from Iceland.

Icelandmusic.is features a database listing all successful Icelandic artists and bands, a news section which reports on what Icelandic artists are doing around the world and an events page with information on dates and venues of music events in Iceland. There are also music videos to download, podcasts and information on Icelandic studios and producers.

Icelandicmusic.is has been created by Icelandic Music Export (IMX), a government-backed body which aims to increase the global visibility of Icelandic music and to provide an essential one-stop resource on music from Iceland. IMX works on promoting Icelandic labels, bands and events abroad, helping artist participation at festivals and events, and providing information to markets and the media.

IMX has successfully organised for Icelandic artists to play at Eurosonic, Midem and SXSW and has collaborated with Iceland's two major music festivals, Mugison's 'Aldrei for eg sudur' in the Westfjords and Reykjavik's Iceland Airwaves concert.

To celebrate the launch, Icelandic Music Export ( http://www.icelandicmusic.is ) is currently giving people the chance to win a free trip to the Iceland Airwaves festival between 17-21st October. The prizes include return flights for two people from any Icelandair destination, three nights accommodation at a Reykjavik guesthouse and two tickets to the Iceland Airwaves festival.
