Farm Tours, Loads of Other Events Light Up Holiday Season for Mansfield Visitors

Malabar Farm State Park opens its doors to visitors Dec. 1-2 with its "Holidays Around the World and Back Home to Malabar" celebration. Taking place at the former home of famed Pulitzer-prize winning novelist, conservationist and screenwriter, Louis Bromfield, this new festive, multicultural event guides guests through a historical journey. Sharing holiday traditions from countries around the world, as well as Malabar Farm, visitors will create memories for the whole family and bring home special memento of their experiences. Visitors will be greeted in Malabar Farm's welcome center and gift shop, then escorted by horse-drawn wagon to the Big House, where carolers will share favorite holiday melodies accompanied by a beautiful Steinway grand. Guests will be transported back in time as they discover how two Hollywood treasures, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, were married in that very spot. Next, guests will learn about holiday traditions from exotic countries of Bromfield's travels. Lastly, families will gather for a buffet of savory and sweet appetizers, desserts and drinks from around the world.

Every visitor will receive gifts of a commemorative ornament and holiday recipes. This unforgettable event is just $25 per adult, $40 for couples or $20 each for groups of 15 of more. Visitors to Mansfield can travel through a holiday festival of lights at Richland County Fairgrounds' Christmas Wunderland drive through, Nov. 30- Dec. 25. Cost is $6/car, $17/minivan or small bus and $60/tour bus. The stunning mansion and grounds of Kingwood are fully decked in holiday spirit, lights and sparkle for "Christmas at Kingwood Center: A Kaleidoscope of Holiday Colors," which opens Nov. 24 and runs through Dec. 30 (closed Dec. 7 and 25). Historic Oak Hill Cottage also decks the halls for the season and guests can ogle all of its adornments each Sunday Nov. 18- Dec. 30 from 2-5 p.m. for $5/person. Travelers can return to the Malabar Farm Dec. 7-8 and 14-15 from 5-9 p.m. or Dec 9 or 16 noon-5 p.m. for a candlelight holiday tour, fresh-baked cookies and hot cider for $5/adult and $3/child. Renaissance Theatre present "The Nutcracker: A Renaissance Family Tradition" Dec 8 at 2:30 and 8 p.m. and Dec 9 at 2:30 p.m. Mansfield Symphony's "Holiday Pop!" concert takes place Dec 15 at 8 p.m. "A Christmas Carol" is on the bill at Mansfield Playhouse Dec. 7-9 and Dec. 14-16.
