KENNESAW, GA, November 28, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The IRS recently announced some major changes to the 2008 initiative called "Fresh Start". The new changes will permit a large number of taxpayers who are without a job for longer than 30 days the opportunity to avoid tax penalties. As a result Costen Tax Group can help a greatly increased number of taxpayers.

Beginning this year many self-employed and wage earning taxpayers can avoid costly penalties for a late payment of 2011 taxes by submitting an extension and paying their full tax obligation by October 15th 2012. This penalty relief only applies to households earning less than $200,000 filing joint returns or $100,000 for anyone filing as single or head of household. Taxpayers owing in excess of $50,000 for 2011 are ineligible for this relief. Taxpayers now have up to 72 months in order to make installment payments on taxes, raised from the previous limit of 60 months.

These new changes can provide tax relief to a great many taxpayers having difficulty meeting their tax obligations due to unforeseen unemployment or small business owners that have had to close down their ventures. Every year thousands of taxpayers suffer unnecessarily, and pay fines and penalties that could have easily been avoided. Unfortunately many delinquent taxpayers will not file because they do not have the many to pay their tax obligation. This means they end up accumulating penalties for both failing to file and pay taxes. What many taxpayers fail to realize is that they can avoid failure to file penalties by simply filing, even if they are unable to pay. Ultimately it is in both the Government and individual's best interest to help and assist taxpayers to pay their obligation to the best of their abilities, as opposed to simply penalizing and fining those who find themselves in difficult situations due to our current economy.

Hiring a well-qualified and experienced tax expert such as an enrolled agent, can potentially save many taxpayers thousands of dollars. The time and money spent on researching, and hiring a tax professional will often pay for itself many times over in reduced taxes, penalties and fines. A tax relief expert can help their clients navigate through tax lien releases, tax levy releases, offer in compromise, and a myriad of other tax relief tools and instruments available to help them get our to tax difficulties, and more importantly, avoid them altogether in the future.
