Don't Sweat The Injuries, Heat Can Be Just As Dangerous, Says OrthoAtlanta

Atlanta-based surgical group, OrthoAtlanta, encourages athletes to take proper precautions when exercising in the heat of summer.

NORCROSS, GA, November 28, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- OrthoAtlanta, an Atlanta based orthopaedic group, suggest that anyone participating in exercise or sports this summer take proper precautions to avoid heat related injuries.

Atlanta orthopaedic surgeons at OrthoAtlanta state that summer time injuries due to dehydration and heat are devastating to any individual.

Without proper hydration, individuals can suffer from heat cramps and other heat related illnesses.

"Exercise should consist of a proper stretching and cardio program, as well as hydration maintenance," said Dr. Michael Behr, Atlanta orthopaedic surgeon at OrthoAtlanta. "A body that reaches dehydration will begin to have adverse effects quickly, and can result in serious injury to joints and muscles."

Regardless of age, sex or health, anyone can be struck by heat related injury. High summer temperatures can affect everyone, which makes hydration an important part of the daily routine.

The Atlanta orthopaedic surgeons at OrthoAtlanta suggest staying in shaded areas, cooler spots, and drinking an appropriate amount of water throughout the day to help minimize the chance of heat stroke or cramps. Orthopaedic surgeons believe that switching exercise times to the cooler morning hours, rather than hotter afternoon or early evening hours can make a difference in heat related injuries.

Strenuous activity preformed during hotter times of the day can be dangerous, said The Atlanta orthopaedic surgeons at OrthoAtlanta. They advise individuals to avoid such activities by joining a gym for the hotter months, to help avoid heat related injuries.

While not all activities can be resolved with a gym membership, orthopaedic surgeons suggest that all individuals take extreme caution during the hot summer months while they are exercising, and if they feel cramps or nausea at any point during the workout, to stop immediately and cool down.
