MANCHESTER, NH, March 09, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As reported in the National Highway Traffic Safety Association's (NHTSA) "Traffic Safety Facts," 4,280 people were killed in pedestrian versus car accidents in 2010. That's nearly 12 people every day. That same year, a reported 70,000 people were injured in pedestrian versus vehicle accidents.

Pedestrians aged 65 and over accounted for 19 percent of fatalities and 11 percent of injuries. Children aged 15 and younger accounted for seven percent of all fatalities, but an alarming 23 percent of all injuries. 48 percent of pedestrian fatalities occur over the weekend, and 30 percent occur after 8:00 pm according to the NHTSA.

The NHTSA defines a pedestrian as "any person on foot, walking, running, jogging, hiking, or lying down." When bicyclists are included under the pedestrian category, an additional 600 fatalities and 51,000 injuries are added to the accident statistics.

Pedestrian Accident Injuries

- Brain injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Fractured or pulverized bones
- Internal damages
- Disfigurement

When a pedestrian is injured in a car accident, they will most likely face expensive medical treatments, long-term rehabilitation and therapy, lifestyle modifications, a permanent or temporary inability to work, and untold amounts of physical pain and emotional suffering.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian versus car accident, you may be entitled to compensation for all of those damages. An experienced car accident lawyer can investigate your case, establish liability, and help you determine if you have cause to file suit.
