London is Awash with Celebrations This Weekend with St Patrick's Day, Sir Michael Caine's 80th Birthday and the HMS Belfast's 75th Anniversary All on the Agenda

The capital pays homage to one of the city's favourite Londoners, reports LondonTown.com.

LONDON, ENGLAND, March 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With this year's St Patrick's Day falling on a Sunday, Londoners are given the perfect excuse to party for the entire weekend. The capital embraces the holiday with the official parade in Trafalgar Square, a number of Irish themed activities and a generous serving of Guinness and stew. Visitors arriving from outside London can conveniently book their accommodation on LondonTown.com, where a wide range of London hotels are available.

Born on 14th March 1933, Sir Michael Caine's 80th birthday will be celebrated in London with a photography exhibition at the Museum of London. Voted London's favourite Londoner in 2008, Caine is a prolific actor and this exhibition will explore how his background as a working-class Londoner influenced his path to stardom.

A further milestone to be regarded in London this weekend is the HMS Belfast's 75th anniversary. First launched in 1938, the floating military museum was originally a Royal Navy light cruiser and is a reminder of the role Royal Navy ships played during the Second World War. The capital will mark this monumental occasion by playing host to a series of special events and activities across the weekend.

It's a big weekend for art in the capital with the Chelsea Antiques Fair, a popular fixture on the Kings Road since 1950; the opening of the Tate Britain Commission, which sees Turner Prize winning artist Simon Starling create a major new project; and the return of RCA Secret, where Londoners are given the rare chance to pick up a piece of genuine art for a mere GBP45. The art of film is also showcased at the BFI's Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, which returns for its 27th year with its largest programme ever. As well as over 100 films, the festival will incorporate a number of parties and events, including a nod to man of the moment and gay icon David Bowie with a special screening and party on the opening day of the V&A Museum's exhibition, David Bowie Is.

Two new pop-ups open in London this weekend, the first being a ten-day Secret Emporium takeover at the Shoreditch Boxpark. With the company known for working with original labels and indie designers, shoppers can expect a plethora of unique pieces at this fashionable event. The second is an event that indulges on the winning formula of ping pong, booze and food. Taking place at a disused pub in Kensington, Pop Up Ping Pong will serve an evening of unlimited ping pong, cheap drinks and tempting mini burgers courtesy of renowned burgers on bikes company, #BRGR.

Those with children should head to The Little Angel Theatre where their new festival FIRSTS is being launched. Running for two weeks, the festival is a celebration of puppetry and premieres a number of shows from emerging companies.
