Financial Expert Reveals Strategy to Close Wealth Gap for African Americans. Wealth Coach Deborah Owens Says New Study On Growing Economic Divide Should Be A Wake-Up Call

The wealth gap between White and African-American families nearly tripled between 1984 and 2009 according to a new study called "The Roots of the Widening Racial Wealth Gap." Financial expert shares remedies for narrowing the divide.



    LAUREL, MD, April 02, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- April is Financial Literacy Month and a new study suggests the need for financial education in America is greater than ever especially among minorities.

The wealth gap between White and African-American families nearly tripled between 1984 and 2009 and government policy is largely to blame, according to a new study called "The Roots of the Widening Racial Wealth Gap: Explaining the Black-White Economic Divide" conducted by the Institute on Assets and Social Policy.

"The findings of this study on the racial wealth gap should be a wake-up call to policy makers, elected officials, educators, and more importantly African-American families," said Wealth Coach and author Deborah Owens.

Owens is a thought leader and advocate for remedying the wealth disparities of women and minorities. She is the author of three books including the critically acclaimed, A Purse of Your Own: An Easy Guide to Financial Security, published by Simon and Schuster.

A 20-year Wall Street veteran and former vice president with Fidelity Investments, Owens is CEO of Owens Media LLC, and a contributor to CNN, ABC News Now, Shape, Cents Magazine, Black Enterprise and New Visions, New Voices, a Corporation for Public Broadcasting funded initiative aimed at bringing more diverse voices to public radio.
