Nicholas Varias Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Sustainable Developments and Renewable Energy

Nicholas Varias has completed projects for major government organizations and prominent private entities

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA, July 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nicholas Varias, President of Flexsola International Development Corporation, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in sustainable development. Mr. Varias has spent the past four years serving as president of Flexsola International Development Corporation, where he tirelessly works to promote sustainable design and development. This corporation, registered in Ontario, Canada, provides him with the platform for the worldwide promotion and development of his award winning flexible solar design. Mr. Varias, who lives and works out of Oakville, Ontario, is an innovative architect, urbanist, artist and writer, and an outspoken advocate for the protection of nature, a clean environment, new urbanism, sustainable development, barrier-free design and modern transportation.

The FlexSola concept proposes a flat green roof versus a conventional pitch roof. The roof parapets can support the dual-axis solar tracking devices he has designed to increase the efficiency of solar panels. The rooftop can be landscaped and used for gardening, especially with the addition of a greenhouse. An elevator can also reach the roof, thus providing wheelchair access to all levels. The rooftop creates a private outdoor space and is safe for childcare. Additional benefits include a place for pets to roam and social options for hosting guests.

In 1996, Mr. Varias has won the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's FlexHousing Design Competition. A model unit based on his winning design was built at the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology in Ottawa.

While in private practice from 1993 until 2012, Mr. Varias has successfully completed projects for CMHC, Public Works & Government Services Canada, Department of National Defense, ProFac Facilities Management and private individuals and corporations. In 2002, he worked on several downtown revitalization projects and the emergency shelter for the homeless in Barrie, Ontario. "Cita Vita" in Cairo, has been an exquisite multi-purpose recreational project, for which Nicholas has visited Egypt twice in 1998. The Bannister solar house in Sarnia, Ontario, is a unique example of sustainable architecture in which Mr. Varias has had the opportunity of fully applying his creativity. The "Am Shalom" Synagogue in Barrie, built in 2003, is an out-of-the-ordinary building, in which he has experimented with the hexagonal grid.

Mr. Varias holds a Diploma from Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest,

Romania, and did his thesis in urban planning. His professional affiliations include Ontario Association of Architects and Ontario Building Officials Associations. A dedicated member of his community, he supports United Way and Unicef Canada. Mr. Varias'primary motivation for entering into the field of architecture was not to make money, but to be recognized for his innovative designs and make a difference.

Outside of his professional career, Mr. Varias enjoys chess, the arts, jazz, classical music, and watching documentaries on nature and politics. In addition to English, he also speaks French, Romanian and Hungarian. In the coming years, Mr. Varias hopes to bring Flexsola to the housing market. He credits his success to his creativity, his out-of-the box ideas, and his passion. He wants to help the world, have a purpose and leave something behind.
