Riverview Plaza Christened as a Renaissance Hotel

In a ceremony typically reserved for giant ships, Riverview Plaza Hotel was christened as a Renaissance hotel. The hotel in Mobile, Alabama, located in the heart of downtown, has undergone a $64 million renovation inside and out over the past two years.

The hotel in Mobile, Alabama, located in the heart of downtown, has undergone a $64 million renovation inside and out over the past two years.
Dr. David G. Bronner, CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama, with the help of Mobile Mayor Sam Jones, shattered a champagne bottle against one of the hotel's pillars to the delight of the crowd gathered. The Murphy High School band played a fanfare during the christening and the official raising of the Renaissance flag. Renaissance Riverview Plaza and the nearby Battle House Hotel are both owned by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and are part of the Resort Collection of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Renaissance Riverview Plaza, located adjacent to Mobile Bay and near the Alabama Cruise Terminal, features a nautical theme. "From the hotel's restaurant, the Harbor Room, to the hotel uniforms, nautical details are incorporated in every aspect of the hotel," said Jeff Mayers, General Manager of the Renaissance Riverview Plaza. "Hotel floors are identified as decks and the Fathom Lounge features daily drink specials depicting different Ports of Call," said Mayers.

Adjacent to the Mobile Convention Center, the Renaissance Riverview Plaza renovations will delight conventioneers for decades to come. Interior renovations to the hotel are complete. A new 150-foot tall crown will be placed atop the building in the coming weeks. Once complete, the exterior profile will compliment the RSA Battle House Tower and feature an architecturally enhanced top.
