The Guildhall School's New Milton Court Concert Hall Opens This Autumn

State-of-the-art concert hall opens with Guildhall Symphony Orchestra performance.

LONDON, ENGLAND, September 25, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The brand new Milton Court which adds a state-of-the-art concert hall and two theatres to the Guildhall School, one of London's most prestigious arts schools, opens its doors to the public this autumn with a formal opening on 26th September 2013 in the presence of the Lord Mayor.

Members of the public can enjoy the first performance in the new Milton Court Concert Hall on Friday 4th October 2013 when the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan and featuring Guildhall alumni as soloists, perform a special evening concert. For those who want to enjoy the concert and spend the night in London, there are many nearby London hotels to choose from.

Facilities at the new Milton Court, based across the road from the current Guildhall School building on Silk Street, will include a timber-lined state-of-the-art 608-seat concert hall - comparable in size with London's Wigmore Hall - a 223-seat theatre and a more intimate studio theatre with up to 128 seats.

Added to these facilities are three major rehearsal rooms, a TV studio suite, and teaching, meeting and office spaces. In the transparent public foyers of Milton Court is Work No. 1637: FEELINGS, a brand new artwork by Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed, a green neon sign that reads 'feelings'.

The inaugural performance in the new Milton Court Theatre will be 'The Three Sisters' (19th to 26th October 2013) while the first public production performed in the smaller Milton Court Studio will be 'The Seagull' by Anton Chekhov in a version by Peter Gill running from 17th until 24th October 2013.

Milton Court will showcase performances by the Guildhall School's stars of tomorrow and some of the school's internationally-renowned alumni. The Alumni Recital Series will include performances by Thomas Ades (5th November 2013), Anne Sofie von Otter (23rd November 2013), Tasmin Little (26th February 2014) and Toby Spence (2nd May 2014). Milton Court will also host concerts put on by world-renowned neighbouring arts centre the Barbican, including performances by the Britten Sinfonia and Academy of Ancient Music.

Designed by architects David Walker, RHWL and Arts Team, Milton Court is part of a bigger GBP89 million development that includes private residential accommodation and mixes living and working spaces with the performing arts.
