Art Pottery Gives You a Look at the 1905 Roseville Azurean Vase on Antiques Roadshow

A rare Roseville Azurean vase surfaced on Antiques Roadshow to the excitement of the appraisers at Art Pottery.

ATLANTA, GA, September 27, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Art Pottery, an appraiser of antique American pottery, is pleased to note that a large Roseville Azurean vase was featured on Antiques Roadshow. The vase, which was dated between 1900 and 1905, was appraised during an episode which was aired in 2005.

The art pottery mark experts point out that the vase is a very unusual piece from Roseville Pottery. It is painted in vibrant shades of blue, putting it in a line of pieces known as Azurean, and it depicts a landscape which prominently features a heard of cattle with a lone farmer standing nearby. It is clearly signed on the bottom with an early Roseville Pottery Company mark, and it was also signed by Allen Simpson, the artist who painted it.

This piece is incredibly rare. Roseville Azurean pieces are hardly ever seen, and the ones which are seen feature flowers, not landscapes with animals. The size of the piece increases its rarity, as does the clarity with which the piece was painted. The appraiser for Antiques Roadshow estimated that the Roseville antique pottery vase has a value between $4,000 and $6,000.

"We were quite impressed when this piece appeared on Antiques Roadshow," says Manning Garrett, Owner of Art Pottery, the Newcomb College pottery experts. "Throughout their long history, Roseville was a pottery producer that focused mostly on floral designs. Such a detailed and crisp landscape is a rare find indeed. The artistry behind its creation is very evident, and the piece itself is in great condition. The owner is very fortunate to have such an exquisite piece."
