ROCKVILLE, MD, September 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates, the leading U.S. historical research firm, assisted the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and internationally recognized museum planning and design firm Gallagher & Associates as they developed the new museum exhibits at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York. The new exhibits were opened to the public on June 30 as part of the first renovation of the library since its opening in 1941.

With a mission to bring the "New Deal to a New Generation," NARA wanted to use creative techniques to bring FDR's story to life, using interactives, immersive multimedia presentations, and the display of rare artifacts.

After confirming the overall themes to be addressed and the exhibit topic areas, History Associates provided research assistance to NARA and Gallagher & Associates as they explored the best ways of telling the story of FDR's presidency from the New Deal through World War II. With the goal of creating a fulfilling and illuminating visitor experience, the design team developed a variety of exhibit displays, audio-visual pieces, and interactives. Historians at History Associates developed content and helped research images and secure necessary licensing for the project.

The new exhibit incorporates interactive displays at FDR's Oval Office Desk and his specially-designed Ford Phaeton. Additional displays help visitors to understand the controversial issues that FDR faced, such as Japanese-American internment or reactions to the Holocaust, and visitors can enter two period rooms to sit and listen to FDR's Fireside Chats. The exhibit also features a 500 square foot replica of FDR's secret White House Map Room that includes maps, battle animations, interactive quizzes, timelines, and videos of World War II.
