Harris Charitable Trust names 2014 Honorees: T.R. "Tina" Threston, Jane Pullman, Jane Waterman, Andrew Michaels, Dorian Macon and Andre D'Orleans.



    NORTHAMPTON, ENGLAND, October 13, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Harris Charitable Trust was launched in 1954 by Susan and Wellington Charles Harris. Currently, W. Charles Harris sits as Chairman of the Board, and, his son Wellington C. Harris services as President, and, his daughter Penelope Harris Roche serves as Vice President. In addition to keeping The Harris Charitable Trust true to its original mission statement (HCT supports work of selected organizations that improves or increases their effectiveness in delivering services, including efforts to alleviate critical shortages of healthcare providers, non-profit management, and other areas of need identified by the trustees); in recent years, W. Charles Harris created the annual Harris Charitable Trust Annual Mock Fox Hunt* and Gala Ball which honors men and women who have been selected by the Harris Charitable Trust as "Globally Notable Individuals of Positive Change."

The Harris Trust has established a comprehensive selection process for identifying and selecting the most exceptional individuals from thousands of nominees from around the world who are presented for consideration by companies, organizations or individuals+ and assessed according to rigorous selection criteria. Only the most notable and outstanding candidates in their specific areas of work, fund-raising or volunteerism are selected from the political, medical, business, civil society, athletic, academia, journalistic, humanitarian, philanthropic, and arts and culture sectors across the globe.

Individuals may not nominate themselves. If someone is nominated by another individual, two supporting recommendations are required from professionals in the nominee's field.

The 2014 Harris Charitable Trust "Globally Notable Individuals of Positive Change" Honorees are as follows:

*The Annual Mock Fox Hunt is held on the private 500 acre Harris estate just outside Northampton, UK, and, true to a mock fox hunt form, no actual fox is chased, hunted or killed during the event. Rather it is a festive event for participants of all horseback riding abilities, and, every safety is taken to insure a safe journey for riders, horses, hounds, and, our furry friends on the ground."

Overview

The Harris Charitable Trust is a private foundation that was funded in 1954 by the Harris family of Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. The family has had a keen interest and commitment in assisting others.

The Trust supports selected local, regional, and national organizations in the United Kingdom as well as the United States serving a variety of worthwhile organizations and indviduals. The Trust also supports work of selected organizations that improves or increases their effectiveness in delivering services, including efforts to alleviate critical shortages of healthcare providers, non-profit management, and other areas of need identified by the trustees. The Trust is particularly interested in supporting work that intentionally utilizes persons fifty years old and above who wish to use their expertise and life experience to assist organizations and individuals in fulfilling their goals.

Recent activities of the Trust include support for capacity building, mentoring activities, research, education, and health initiatives that in various ways support the broad interests of the Trust. The Trust has developed partnerships with organizations exploring new ideas and efforts; supported established service providers that are ready to move to a higher level of engagement; assisted educational institutions seeking to meet specific societal needs; and supported community based organizations responding to local issues. The Trust has provided funding for capital needs that enhance the efforts of growing organizations.
