North Bennet Street School Debuts New Location and Facilities During Open House November 8 & 9

Aspiring craftspeople and the general public are invited to visit the new home of New England's oldest crafts school during a special two-day grand opening event.

BOSTON, MA, October 17, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aspiring furniture makers, bookbinders, jewelry makers, preservation carpenters, piano technology professionals, carpenters, locksmiths, violin makers - and those merely curious about the process of making exquisite things by hand - are invited to a behind-the-scenes look at one of America's oldest schools of craftsmanship during a special two-day grand opening at the North Bennet Street School's new facility at 150 North Street in Boston's historic North End.

The open house event begins on Friday, November 8, 12 noon - 4:00 pm and continues on Saturday, November 9, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Admission is free.

Visitors are invited to watch and interact with students and instructors in the eight areas of concentration - from violin making, carpentry and handmade furniture to piano restoration, jewelry making and locksmithing. For the first time in decades, all of the school's programs are under one roof in 65,000 square feet of refurbished, energy-efficient space located about five blocks from the original home where the school was founded nearly 130 years ago.

Serious amateurs seeking workshops and short courses and aspiring artisans considering full-time careers are welcome to wander through the school for an informative, inspiring look at the expansive studio spaces and traditional training methods that have earned the school its international reputation for excellence.

Visitors are also invited to view finished work of students and alumni on sale in the school's new Gallery Store in the North Street lobby of the new building.

North Bennet Street School is a fully accredited, post-secondary crafts academy. Founded in 1885, the school is internationally renowned for excellence in teaching and for its role in promoting and preserving traditional crafts skills.

The open house event can be reached by public transportation (MBTA Orange and Green lines to Haymarket stop). Visit www.nbss.edu/openhouse, call 617-227-0155 or email [email protected] for more information.
