With more than 30 years of professional experience in education, Cathy Pappalardo has distinguished herself as an expert in instructional leadership, school improvement, workplace change management, career and educational counseling, and improved educational outcomes for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students.

Ms. Pappalardo is a resourceful and results-driven education leader with strong analytical and people-management skills. She is passionate about building the capacity in her staff to not only manage, but to embrace continuous change for improvement. She has a successful track record of developing best practices in schools to revitalize pedagogical practices and to create strong, cohesive teams capable of independently achieving operational goals through efficient and effective use of processes and resources.

Her qualifications, which include a master's degree in educational studies and a Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Queensland, have given her a very strong academic background which enables her to readily respond to the curriculum, as well as the learning and social-emotional needs of students.

Cathy Pappalardo's leadership in schools has resulted in the development of engaging learning environments in which positive and supportive relationships are fostered and each student is challenged to achieve their personal best in every aspect of school life. The focus of her interventions in schools has been to coach teachers and school leaders to gather and interpret student data and use it to set targets and differentiate the teaching and learning in order to explicitly cater for groups and individuals within classrooms.

Ms. Pappalardo began her career in education as an English language teacher, initially in the field of adult education. Having migrated with her family from Italy to Australia as a child, Ms. Pappalardo has a unique insight into the issues faced by migrants and new arrivals to Australia, particularly in language acquisition and acculturation. These early experiences honed her interest in the areas of education, particularly in ESL and linguistics, and how they affected the education and settlement of new arrivals. She is fluent in English and Italian, and she majored in French and German through her Bachelor of Arts.

Cathy Pappalardo draws on a wealth of experience in education, in the positions that she has held as principal, deputy principal, senior guidance officer, career and educational counselor and teacher of ESL/EAL (English as a Second/Additional Language) and LOTE (Languages Other Than English). In her career in education, spanning from preparatory to adult education, Ms. Pappalardo has coached, mentored and supervised teachers, counselors and leadership teams; she has also facilitated professional development for educational professionals, developed ESL curriculum, and designed and published ESL resources. Ms. Pappalardo is currently on the Board of MDS, a multicultural organization that welcomes and supports new arrivals to Australia. Ms. Pappalardo attributes her success to her interest in languages and cultures teamed with her love of travel, reading and a passionate belief in education and life-long learning.
