The 3rd Annual "First Ladies of Excellence" Honors America's First Lady

Women of Excellence (WOE) magazine announces its nominees, including First Lady Michelle Obama, for the 3rd annual "First Ladies of Excellence" Awards Gala on February 20th at historic 200 Peachtree in downtown Atlanta.

    ATLANTA, GA, January 26, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- First Lady Michelle Obama will be among 20 "Women of Excellence" within 10 different categories who will be honored at the 3rd annual "First Ladies of Excellence" Awards Gala on February 20th at historic 200 Peachtree in downtown Atlanta. The award shows appreciation for their service to the community and the dedication and inspiration they provide.

"Our committee decided that the First Lady exemplifies all that we have represented over the last several years of honoring first ladies," says Amy Holmes, publisher and editor of Women of Excellence magazine.

Each year, WOE honors one woman with the prestigious lifetime award, and this year's nominee is First Lady Michelle Obama, who may be in attendance. Judge Glenda Hatchett will be one of the guest speakers among five women who have shown exceptional leadership skills and will be honored, including Debra L. Lee (BET CEO); [ Judge Penny Brown Reynolds (star of Family Court); and Shirley Franklin (former mayor of Atlanta). The honoree categories are Humanitarian, Activist, Community Service, Academic Scholar, Mentorship, Service of Excellence, Entrepreneurship, Athleticism, Proverbs 31 Woman, and Lady of Grace.

It is the mission of Women of Excellence to encourage, edify, empower, and educate women from all walks of life. As such, this awards gala endeavors to maintain an atmosphere of integrity and respect for all women who seek and exemplify excellence regardless of ethnicities and cultures. Each nominee, excluding the Prestigious Lifetime Award Recipient and the five Elite Ladies of Excellence Recipients, had to submit a 10-question questionnaire to be considered. "Even though they submitted the questionnaire," explains Holmes, "they are clueless as to what award they will receive. It is a surprise and makes for an evening of excitement, fun and laughter."

First Lady nominees 2014 are: Christina Murray (star of the Sisterhood, reality show about five Atlanta first ladies), Regina Belle Battle, Debra Morton, Brenda Bronner, Nina Bronner, Dr. Tanda Joy Canion, Carolyn Vinson, Vanessa Anderson, Constance Wicker, Arlene Williams, Shrease Anderson, Lutherine Young, Lorraine White, Chi'lra Oliver, Pamela Hawkins, Alecia Williams, Laurona Phelps, Robin Bolin, Angela Moore, and Colleen Rouse.

This is formal gala and dinner with limited tickets available to the public. General admission tickets are $70 until February 7, 2014, and afterward, they are $100 if available. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a VIP reception, and the event officially begins at 7 p.m. The evening includes a formal dinner, awards ceremony, live musical performances, and prominent guest speakers. Musical performers include Chandra Currelley-Young and Tomeka Tiller. Finally, there is an after-hours mixer and dance.
