Reduction Engineering Scheer Introduces Disposable Pulverizer Disks for High Wear Applications

The development of disposable disks using specialty steel provides important advantages in corrosion resistance and longevity.

This new product gives a terrific option to companies facing the toughest applications

KENT, OH, April 25, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reduction Engineering Scheer, the leading manufacturer of plastic pulverizers, has released a new product in its line of disposable pulverizer disks made with a high-carbon, high-chromium alloy steel.

"The addition of this new product gives a terrific option to companies facing the toughest applications," said Richard A. D'Angelo, chief operating officer for Reduction Engineering Scheer. "Our newest disks provide enhanced wear performance when processing abrasive plastics without using a heavy standard disk.

"The savings from shipping costs to sharpen standard disks alone makes this a great option, but the additional performance is game-changing."

The new steel in this disk is particularly well-suited for applications requiring long runs and close tolerances, because of its high:
- Wear resistance
- Compressive strength
- Stability in hardening

When Reduction Engineering Scheer launched the plastics industry's first disposable cutting disk two years ago, the product represented a major innovation in pulverizing technology. Its advantages included:
- Reduced shipping cost
- Lower mill temperatures
- Increased rates
- Construction that's 75% thinner and lighter
- Larger cutting diameter

At the time, the company said the lightweight disks doubled the service life of standard disks at half the cost.

"Now, with the introduction of disposable disks made of this new material, we've forged yet another important advancement that will only further benefit our customers," D'Angelo said.
