Dr. Raff is a Professor of Law in the School of Law at the University of Canberra

Dr. Raff has 32 years of experience in the law

CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA, May 5, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Murray Raff, Professor of Law at the University of Canberra, has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in his profession.

Dr. Raff has 32 years of experience in the law, with a specialty in environmental, planning, administrative, property and comparative law. He is also skilled in legal capacity and institution building in states in transition.

In his current role of seven years at the University of Canberra, where he initially served as the dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Raff is lecturing in comparative, environmental, planning, property and administrative law in undergraduate and master's programs and supervising Ph.D. research students. He is focusing on the German legal system and is leading an international research project on the challenge of rebuilding civil law in states in transition from socialism, as part of his comparative law interests. In five years, he looks to continue in his role as professor and his growth in research and publications.

Dr. Raff attributes his success to his passion, research, hard work and ability to anticipate new directions in his fields. He also worked in research and policy with the Law Reform Commission of Victoria, and has practiced as an attorney in the fields of property law, and environmental and planning law for many years.

Dr Raff took his chair in the Canberra Law School in June 2006. He had been head of the new Law School at Victoria University since 2003. He helped to establish that law school in 2001, before which he had worked in the law school at the University of Melbourne, one of his alma maters, for eight years.

Dr. Raff has written many articles and publications, including his book, "Private Property and Environmental Responsibility: A Comparative Study of German Real Property Law." His 1989 article on law and the greenhouse effect was one of the first legal papers published anywhere on this topic. He has also worked in commercial legal practice and was a founding member of the Environment Defenders Office (Victoria), a community legal center specializing in pro bono assistance in environmental and planning law cases. He was active on the board of that organization from 1992 to 2006 and chair for six years before taking his chair in Canberra.

Since 2011, Dr. Raff has been collaborating with Professor Ulrich Drobnig of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg on the project to complete the Property Law volume of the "International Encyclopedia of Comparative Law." Dr Raff has enjoyed the superb research facilities of the Max Planck Institute on many occasions; particularly, undertaking research for his Ph D and book with the generous support of the Institute. Dr Raff has undertaken many successful academic visits, the most recent of which was a visiting professorial post in the Faculty of Law at University of Würzburg in 2012.

Dr Raff's work at the Law Reform Commission of Victoria focused mainly on the Land Law reference, which produced a range of influential discussion papers and reports on reform of the Torrens land title registration system in preparation for technical innovations, such as integrated electronic databases of information about land and the computer land title register, which are now being realized in practice. He was involved in the Law Reform Commission's work on new legislation in planning and environment, conservation, water and mining.

A two-time graduate of Monash University, Dr. Raff earned a law degree with honours, and a Bachelor of Jurisprudence. He received a Ph.D. from The University of Melbourne. Recently inducted into Worldwide Branding, he also maintains affiliations with the International Academy for Comparative Law, the Australian Academy of Forensic Science and the ACT Law Society. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. He supports the Environment Defenders Office (ACT) and the Australian Red Cross.
