Benefits of Front-End Speech Software Outweigh Physician Resistance

KLAS report examines growing momentum of front-end speech tools.

While hospital leadership sees the value of FES, many end users are frustrated that they are now being asked to do the work of transcriptionists.

OREM, UT, June 17, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Despite almost 50% of organizations citing clinician adoption as the number-one challenge to front-end speech (FES) deployment, 9 out of 10 of the interviewed hospitals still plan to expand its use. This and other key findings are revealed in the latest KLAS report, entitled Front-End Speech 2014: Functionality Doesn't Trump Physician Resistance.

Facilities interviewed saw a higher impact in nearly every category measured in the study, including reduced transcription costs, reduced documentation time and more complete patient-narratives.

"Physicians are resistant to changes in their workflow," says report author Boyd Stewart. "While hospital leadership sees the value of FES, many end users are frustrated that they are now being asked to do the work of transcriptionists."

As part of this study, KLAS interviewed organizations across the country about their front-end speech software. The vendors reviewed in the study are Dolbey, M*Modal and Nuance.
