Dr. Ivoyl P. Koutsaroff, P. Eng., Recognized by Worldwide Branding for Excellence in Research and Development Technology

Eng., Research and Development Technology Manager for Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in research and development technology.

Dr. Koutsaroff's passion for academia led him to a career in research and development. Having gained 16 years of experience, he currently serves as the research and development technology manager for the electronic manufacturing company, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. He is skilled in a variety of areas, including high-density thin film ferroelectric capacitors, BST tunable varactors, RF-front-end components, complex oxides and oxynitrides thin film deposition, high volume semiconductor processes tool design for functionality and productivity, plasma deposition and etching technologies, integrated passive devices (IPDs), quality assurance, SPC and device reliability, conceptual design and combinatorial synthesis of new functional thin film materials, solid state interface engineering, process development, and thin film device integration, among many more.

Dr. Koutsaroff previously held positions at the Centre for Advanced Nanotechnology at the University of Toronto, the Electrotechnical Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan, E&G Optoelectronics (presently Perkin-Elmer Optoelectronics) in Montreal, Quebec and Gennum Corporation (presently Semtech Corporation) in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Koutsaroff had organized a Ferroelectric Thin Films symposium at the Materials Research Society in Boston, USA, and since obtaining his current role, he founded and organized the first Anion-controlled New Inorganic Materials (ANIM) symposium at the E-MRS in France. He is a Guest-Editor of the Special Virtual Issue on ANIM materials, "Crystal Growth & Design" journal (Impact Factor of 4.689 in 2012), American Chemical Society (ACS) publications. He has also been a session chair at the International Symposium on Integrated Ferroelectrics (ISIF), ICC, FMA and other conferences. As research and development technology manager, Dr. Koutsaroff works on advanced functional thin film materials and devices, oversees research and development activities, develops the next-generation high throughput deposition technology for highly functional thin films-based integrated passive devices (IPDs), and creates external development projects, technologies and patent applications.

Dr. Koutsaroff earned a Master of Science in Applied Physics from Sofia University, a Ph.D. in Semiconductor Material Physics from the Institute of Semiconductors Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sun Yat-Sen University. A professional engineer through Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), he maintains affiliation with IEEE, the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS), American Chemical Society (ACS), and The American Ceramic Society. He has had several patents awarded throughout his career in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2013, and he was also given the Murata's Vice President of Technology Development and Innovation Award by Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. He attributes his success to his persistence, devotion, passion and independent thinking, and as the years progress, Dr. Koutsaroff looks to continue growing in his career.
