SAN MARCOS, CA, July 01, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CSUSM Extended Learning, in conjunction with the CSUSM College of Education, Health & Human Services, today announced the opening of the California State University San Marcos Speech-Language Clinic. Designed to serve North County residents, the clinic will provide speech and language therapy for adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders who need assistance re-acquiring communication skills.

Under the supervision of CSUSM faculty members, students in the Master of Arts in Education, Option in Communicative Sciences & Disorders program will offer one-on-one and group therapy services. This fieldwork will provide an important part of training for students in the assessment and treatment of people who have varying difficulties with communication.

"Restoring speech and language skills is a major hurdle for people who have survived neurological injury or disease and this clinic provides both a high-quality educational experience for our students and a valuable service to members of our community."

Family members and friends of survivors of stroke or TBI are encouraged to attend, as are those who are interested in learning more about the Speech-Language Pathology program at CSUSM. The clinic is located at 135 Vallecitos De Oro, #D, on San Marcos' Furniture Row. Parking and attendance at the opening event are free.
