/24-7PressRelease/ - EDMONTON, AB, CANADA, January 21, 2008 - Canadian author Cheryl Kaye Tardif has a strong connection to the people of Newnan, Georgia. In November, she stumbled across an online article in The Times-Herald, a Georgia newspaper. The article listed teens' Christmas wishes, and one teen was asking for a copy of Whale Song, Tardif's latest bestseller.
The author was so touched that she immediately contacted the Alliance for Children's Enrichment (ACE) and made arrangements to give the teen everything she wanted for Christmas. Then Tardif contacted numerous authors (many from the Christmas wish list in the newspaper), some publishers, reviewers and anyone else she could think of. Tardif's actions ensured that almost every child was taken care of this past Christmas. "I am extremely honored to have helped," she says.
Tardif was then contacted by Linda Kirkpatrick, a board member for ACE and the Executive Director of Community Welcome House, a shelter in Newnan, Georgia, for women and children who are victims of violence. Kirkpatrick read Whale Song and emailed Tardif, saying, "I love the book. I have been reading it in between the business of the Christmas Season which is always tragic for women and children who are victims of domestic violence."
Kirkpatrick went on to say, "It [Whale Song] is going to be included in our mandatory reading for our residents of Community Welcome House. It will be a wonderful addition to our library. I can't thank you enough."
In mid-January, Cheryl Kaye Tardif announced that she had written a discussion guide for Whale Song. This guide is perfect for book clubs, schools and individuals, and ensures that the reader gets full value from the novel. Besides abuse, Whale Song covers topics like racism, bullying at school, assisted death, loss of a parent, and overcoming challenges and surviving tragedy.
"Whale Song is a novel of survival and hope," Tardif says. "And it will change the way you view life...and death."
A portion of the author's royalties will go to three non-profit organizations to help combat poverty, homelessness and addictions.
