Ira Sacker, MD, Offers Medical Services for Patients in Recovery

The Sacker Center is an out-patient facility that specializes in helping adolescents and adults overcome eating disorders. Services include counseling for depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, and life after recovery. The center also provides expanded services for medical nutrition, individual, family, and couples assessments.

Dr. Sacker has over 40 years of experience in health and wellness, including as a specialist of eating disorders. Ira M. Sacker, MD, is the co-author of Dying to Be Thin and made many appearances as an expert in media. His areas of expertise include treating patients with eating disorders, specializing in internal medicine and helping adolescents and adults find their recovery identity through their passions. On a daily basis, Dr. Sacker offers medical nutrition services that balance nutrition through metabolic and hormonal evaluations and designs food plans for weight loss or weight gain. Sacker Center also provides counseling for those who have experienced grief from the loss of a loved one or trauma from physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Additionally, Dr. Sacker offers approaches to dealing with life after recovery, such as puberty, marriage, divorce, pregnancy and other transitions.

Attributing his success to his work method, Dr. Sacker doesn't follow a specific formula. Instead he follows an individualized approach discussed in his book, Regaining Your Self: Understanding and Conquering the Eating Disorder Identity. He also credits the belief that the patient has to establish trust and the willingness to change in order to acquire recovery.

Ira M.Sacker received his MD from the UCLA School of Medicine. He also completed his residency at New York University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliations with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Eating Disorders Association. In his free time, Dr. Sacker enjoys time with his family, traveling, photography, fly fishing and skiing. In the years to come, he hopes to train others in his field.
