foodtweeks App Creates Donations for St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance

Phoenix based food bank and foodtweeks work together to end hunger in America.

We are grateful to be part of the national foodtweeks campaign, where every calorie saved will be a calorie that our hungry neighbors receive.

STAMFORD, CT, October 07, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- foodtweeks and St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance in Phoenix, AZ partnered together in effort to feed the hungry. The free app that combines weight management with donations to food banks, added another food bank in its national campaign to end hunger. Boosting donations across the country while creating healthier communities, foodtweeks will make it easy to donate to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance among other affiliated organizations.

Each time a foodtweeks user reports "tweeking" (cutting calories from their food), St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance will receive donations from foodtweeks, enabling the food bank to distribute an equal number of nutritious calories to hungry families. This comes at no cost to the consumer in time or money. All the users need to do is tell the app which tweeks they've made to their food and foodtweeks takes care of the rest.

Through its crowdsourced image base of 44,000 "tweeks," foodtweeks can instantly display suggestions for the savvy customer of a grocery store, a patron at a favorite chain restaurant, or even for the mom making meals at home. The calories saved by adding one egg white for every whole egg at breakfast in the morning does not change the taste and the calories are donated through foodtweeks as a nutritious meal for a family in need.

"We are grateful to be part of the national foodtweeks campaign, where every calorie saved will be a calorie that our hungry neighbors receive. This new smart phone app will provide consumers the ability to make healthier choices while making an impact for the hungry, helping St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance further fulfill our mission to end hunger in Arizona and build healthier communities," said Beverly Damore, President and CEO of St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance.

To make an even bigger impact, users can engage their social media to post a "tweek" on Facebook or Twitter, doubling or tripling each donation.

This concept was created with the purpose to encourage healthier communities through better eating habits, provide meals for the hungry and create a base of socially conscious consumers. foodtweeks is a product of Walker Health Labs, designers of surprising commercial solutions that also make a difference for big social problems.

"foodtweeks is proud and excited to support St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance," said Elisa Shannon, foodtweeks Executive Vice President of Partnership Development. "St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance is a highly committed and respected organization that provides outstanding service to food-insecure members of our community."

foodtweeks is rapidly expanding its partner-base to food banks all across the nation, with more joining each week, according to Ms. Shannon, herself a former food bank executive. Food banks that wish to affiliate with foodtweeks may contact Ms. Shannon by email at [email protected].

Jay Walker, the inventor of foodtweeks, is also the chairman of Patent Properties and curator of TEDMED, the health and medicine edition of the famous TED conference. A noted entrepreneur, Mr. Walker has founded three companies that serve more than 50 million customers. He is best known as the creator of Priceline, which brought a new level of value to the travel industry.
