LMC Interactive Services Review the Growth of Booking.com

It's also a fact that people tend to spend longer on overseas holidays than home based holidays, so by offering more overseas options Booking.com can benefit from much higher revenue per booking made.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, October 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- We all like to take holidays abroad and at home, and when we do more and more of us are using the services of an online travel agent. One in particular has become the company of choice for people looking for a great value getaway. A recent report in The Brisbane Times looks at how Booking.com has become Australia's most successful online travel agent. Here, LMC Interactive Services review the report, and look at how businesses in all sectors can learn from their example.

"Consumers are always looking for speed, value and convenience, and that's why online retail continues to grow so rapidly," said Cathal O'Malley, director of LMC Interactive Services. "This is especially true in the online travel industry where competition is fierce. Booking.com provides a good example on how to gain a competitive edge over rivals in the same sector by offering a unique proposition."

The report looks at news that Booking.com, who are based in The Netherlands, have now overtaken Australian based rivals Wotif.com when it comes to the number of reservations being made. One reason for this is the different approach of the two companies. Wotif.com concentrate mainly on vacations taken within Australia and New Zealand. Booking.com on the other hand, offer hotel accommodation on a truly global scale, and have access to rooms in more than half a million properties worldwide.

One other key difference is that Booking.com don't charge consumers any booking fee, unlike their Australian based rival. They make up for this in part by charging hotels more to be part of their property database, but hotels are happy to pay a bit more when they see how it will be more effective at pushing up their occupancy rates. It's also a fact that people tend to spend longer on overseas holidays than home based holidays, so by offering more overseas options Booking.com can benefit from much higher revenue per booking made.

"Booking.com appeal to consumers because they offer more choice, and don't make them pay a booking fee," said Cathal O'Malley. "They promote these facts, and play on their strengths. This is something that all businesses should do. Find the advantage that you have over competitors, and base your marketing strategy around it."
