Pulsar Instruments Launches a Free 5 Step Guide to Controlling Workplace Noise

In an aim to help employers safeguard the hearing of workers, adhere to legislation and prevent potential exposure to compensation claims, Pulsar Instruments have released a free five step guide to Controlling Workplace Noise.

NORTH YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, October 23, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- More than one million employees in the UK are exposed to levels of noise which jeopardises their hearing, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is one of the most pervasive risks to the health of employees but ironically is one of the most ignored. By law, employers must take the necessary precautions to safeguard employees' hearing.

A culture of claims

In 2013, more than 60,000 claims notifications for industrial deafness were made in Britain. The escalating 'claim culture' is putting increased pressure on employers to comply with the principles stipulated by the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. Amongst the regulations are 'Legal Limits' set for daily and weekly noise exposure.

Pulsar's Employers' Guide explains the statutory duties of employers to help ensure their workplace is safeguarded from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).

It highlights the requisite procedures from firstly establishing whether there are any noise hazards in a place of work to using noise measurement devices to accurately access the levels of noise.

The Guide clearly explains the sound level meter or noise dosemeter options so employers are able to make a better informed decision about which noise measurement tools are likely to be most effective in their workplace.

The Guide provides details about how to create a clear report of the result of the assessment. It also gives advice on how often to review a noise control programme to maintain its effectiveness and compliance with regulations.

Case study

Pulsar's free 5 Steps Guide to Controlling Workplace Noise includes a case study which maps the story of a worker who suffers from work-induced hearing loss and tinnitus. After winning a battle for compensation, the instrument technician condemns companies which fail to take the necessary steps to safeguard workers' hearing.

Being aware of the duties and responsibilities employers have under the 2005 Regulations gives employers peace of mind that their workplace is a safe environment for employees.

To have that peace of mind and to ensure your company is not one of the thousands of noise-induced hearing loss claims that are made in the UK each year, download Pulsar's free '5 Steps to Controlling Workplace Noise.'
