Pulverizer Manufacturer Unveils Inline Liquid Color Mixer

Ohio-based RE Scheer collaborated with PolyOne ColorMatrix to develop patented technology.

RE Scheer is pleased to introduce an inline color mixer that provides considerable advantages for plastics processors.

KENT, OH, November 03, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reduction Engineering Scheer, a global manufacturer of pulverizers and other plastics processing equipment, has introduced a patented Inline Liquid Color Mixer created in partnership with PolyOne ColorMatrix.

"After five years of intensive development and testing, RE Scheer is pleased to introduce an inline color mixer that provides considerable advantages for plastics processors," company COO Rick D'Angelo said. "Inline mixing enables continuous mixing of rotational grade resins in short or long runs, giving the processor greater production flexibility over batch mixing."

Other benefits include:

- Proven physical property improvements over high intensity mixing
- Finished parts with higher impact strength, better dispersion and reduced electrostatic charge
- Lower colorant cost compared to most dry pigments

The unique technology, which was awarded U.S. Patent No. 8,864,058 on October 21, takes advantage of the latent heat produced during pulverizing, D'Angelo said. Utilizing the latent heat allows the system to achieve excellent dispersion and adhesion of colorant to the particles. A ColorMatrix controller and pump technology introduce the liquid colorant as the material enters the Inline Mixer.

"The Inline Color Mixer also allows the customer to adjust the color concentration and addition rate during mixing," D'Angelo said. "The correct formulation and addition rate ensures consistent and constant mixing of the resin as it travels the length of the mixer.

"Plastics processors are pleased with the system's efficiency, including faster cleaning and color changeovers, as well as the elimination of cross contamination by dry pigments," he said, "which creates substantial savings in labor, equipment and operational costs over the traditional dry color process."
