SAN MARCOS, CA, January 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On February 10, the School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) will host a free Open House and Information Session for prospective students interested in pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Attendees will learn about the program, meet faculty and current students, and find out about opportunities for financial aid. Designed to be completed part-time, the MSN program is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis for Fall 2015 and is offered through CSUSM Extended Learning.

The need for qualified nurses in San Diego and Riverside counties continues to grow, and the graduate program in nursing at CSUSM prepares graduates to take on roles in a variety of health and human service settings or to pursue continued study at the doctoral level. Graduates from the MSN program leave CSUSM with a thorough understanding of nursing from experiences both in and outside of the classroom. Graduates are well equipped to meet healthcare and nursing needs in communities throughout San Diego and Riverside counties as well as around the globe.

The MSN program at CSUSM builds upon the knowledge students have gained as undergraduates, and promotes nursing scholarship at local, state, national, and international levels through a combination of research, service, and practice. Students may choose among three areas of concentration: Advanced Practice Nursing, Clinical Nurse Leader, and Nursing Education. All include a strong foundation in theory and research, while also paying attention to the importance of values, ethics, and multicultural perspectives. Students interact with diverse populations both professionally and in practice settings, including potentially working with underserved and vulnerable populations.

"We strive to meet both our students' desire for career-focused learning and our communities' needs. The MSN program offers students a well-rounded education in nursing that includes the opportunity to use state-of-the-art technology and equipment and to actively serve the community while pursuing their degrees. Graduates are well prepared to take on demanding roles throughout the expanding healthcare industry in Southern California," says Dr. Denise Boren, Director, CSUSM School of Nursing.

The MSN Open House will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Room 439 of University Hall at the CSUSM campus at 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos.
