Atlanta Healthcare Engineering Firm Recognized for Engineering Excellence

Advanced design of Georgia hospital earns respect and honors for local engineering firm with sustainable focus.

ATLANTA, GA, February 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- PerryCrabb, Inc., an integrated engineering solutions firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, is proud to announce that the company has been named a 2015 Engineering Excellence Award winner (http://www.acecga.org/files/822.pdf) by the Georgia chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC Georgia). The firm, which focuses on creating safe, healthy and sustainable indoor environments for the markets of healthcare, higher education and science and technology, is being recognized for their work in creating the WellStar Paulding Hospital in Hiram, Georgia.

Completed in April 2014, the design and build of the WellStar Paulding Hospital was from the beginning dedicated to creating a safe indoor environment that not only catered to the well-being of the patients it housed, but also minimized any potential impact on the local community. PerryCrabb designed systems that focused on safety, lean operation and energy efficiency. Highlights include a whole-house stand-by power system for improved reliability, high-intensity ultraviolet irradiation in the air-handling system that reduces the opportunity for transmission of infection, and radiant-floor heating and cooling. Additionally, Paulding is the first hospital in Georgia to be heated and cooled with a geothermal heat pump system, which uses the Earth as its own thermal battery. The community benefits from zero emissions because no fossil fuels are burned on site to heat the building while WellStar benefits from low energy, water and maintenance costs.

Jim Crabb, CEO and President of PerryCrabb, is thrilled his team has been awarded this distinction. "We are very excited to be named a 2015 Engineering Excellence Award winner by ACEC Georgia. When we were working on this hospital, we knew we were working on something innovative and special and to have this work celebrated is amazing. We thank ACEC Georgia for this recognition and look forward to meeting with the other award winners."

Each year, ACEC Georgia searches for and recognizes engineering projects that stand out from the crowd. In their hunt, they look for excellence, ingenuity and innovation in design. Entries are scored on originality, complexity and successful fulfillment of the client/owner's needs. This year's award winners will be honored at the annual Georgia Engineers Week Awards Gala (http://business.acecga.org/events/details/2015-georgia-engineers-week-awards-gala-82) on Saturday, February 28th, 2015.
