Masters of Mid-Century Modern join Antiques at Clarke's 6:00 pm Monday February 11 2008

Featuring Springer, Nakashima, Parzinger, Rohde, Rizzo, Wegner, Gibbons, Wormley, Seguso, Copier, Jensen, Noguchi and Mont ; a Garrison NY estate collection of antique clocks and music boxes, pair of Hunt Roskell ornate Sterling ice buckets, a highly carved dog pedestaled marble table and more.



    /24-7PressRelease/ - LARCHMONT, NY, February 04, 2008 - From selected estates and consignments, the Clarke Auction Gallery will be selling over 100 mid-century lots by or attributed to Tommi Parzinger, George Nakashima, Gilbert Rohde, Karl Springer, George Nelson, Howard Miller, Sergio Rodrigues, James Mont, Gio Ponti, Milo Baughman, Dunbar, Georg Jensen, Alvar Aalto, Livio Seguso, A.D. Copier, Isamu Noguchi, Robes John Gibbings, Willy Rizzo, and more.

Among 300 additional lots are a Garrison estate collection featuring antique clocks such as four Chelsea's - one a USN submarine; a malachite and marble decorative clock; a small French marble and gilt bronze clock, an English mantle clock, a Bradley and Hubbard ornate marble clock and an unusual bell-form clock among others. The collection also includes two 19th C. large inlaid music boxes and a hand carved sailing ship.

Fine Art includes a signed Leonard Freed iconic photograph of Martin Luther King; Santa Fe art including signed sculpture and pottery; a large mid-century carved wood sculpture; Georgian oil on bone portraits; 19th C. oils in giltwood frames, and a pair of old Dublin portraits.

Other auction highlights are a pair of ornate English sterling ice buckets with leaf and grape marked HUNT ROSKELL, a massive carved dog-pedestaled marble table, Murano chandeliers, and an unidentified goatskin game table and chairs. Other lots include Sterling silver, Sevres, Limoge, Oriental Carpets, lighting, mirrors, china and porcelain, dining sets and other traditional antique and high-end furniture.

Ron Clarke, the founder of the Clarke Auction Gallery, states that "I grew up with Mid-Century Modern in Europe, but New York is the place for the great Europeans as well as the American Design Masters of the 50's and 60's. We've identified most of our fresh-to-market inventory, but there are a few mysteries in this auction as well. "
