There's More Than Meets The Eye in The Angela Series By David A. Bedford

A coming-of-age story, a tale of how a person came to be who she is on entering young adulthood.

FORT WORTH, TX, March 03, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ostensibly for the young adult demographic, the Angela books are in fact a thought-provoking criticism of current society in the guise of a coming-of-age story, age-appropriate for middle grade school children and lively enough to interest adults.

The books chronicle the tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades of the main character, Angela Fournier, but the events in her school are closely connected to what is happening in the larger society: corruption in the independent school district offices, the intense struggle between those who wish to protect nature and those who claim the right to exploit nature as they please, and the new phenomenon of widespread surveillance of common citizens. It is a cautionary tale, a look into a scary future which may well happen if current trends are allowed to continue unchecked.

Angela 1: Starting Over, Angela 2: The Guardian of the Bay, and Angela 3: Silver Path of the Moon, available from the publisher's web site, from amazon.com, and at select bookstores, are an unusual treat in the current publishing landscape: a gently literary, enjoyable but instructive read accessible to all readers and understandable on various levels, as appropriate to age. They are unusual also because they feature a strategic-thinking young woman unusually mature for her age who nonetheless is a complex and alluring character.

About the Author:
David A. Bedford teaches Spanish at Texas Christian University (TCU). Next academic year he will have completed 20 years on the faculty. He was born, in the year of the Great Flood, in the very city where he resides now. However he grew up in Argentina from when he was a toddler until he returned to the U.S. for college at age 18. He lived in the industrial hub of Rosario on the Parana River, Comodoro Rivadavia, the largest and most important city of the Patagonia, on the Atlantic Ocean, and in the world-class capital city, Buenos Aires. He has worked with language teaching in some way or another for his entire career, living in Georgia, Illinois, and Brazil before settling for good in Fort Worth. He is the author of Liliana y el espejo y otros cuentos, a book of fantastic short stories in Spanish. The Angela series of three short novels in English is a social critique packaged in a coming-of-age story that is age-appropriate down to middle school, but at the same time greatly appreciated by adults. He has three very different book projects in mind now and has begun work on the first of these. When not busy teaching during the Fall and Spring semesters, he is available for book events and can usually manage interviews at any time during the year.
