PHILADELPHIA, PA, March 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Philadelphia law firm of Silvers, Langsam and Weitzman, PC, has announced that it will take cases related to the derailment of a Philadelphia-bound Amtrak train in North Carolina. More than 50 people were injured in the accident, which occurred because an extra-long tractor-trailer truck was stuck on the tracks.

The train derailed in Halifax County near the Virginia state line en route from Charlotte, North Carolina, to New York City, stopping at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. The train's engine and baggage car derailed; the truck driver was not injured. The train was carrying over 200 passengers and eight crew members.

It is not known whether the train tried to stop or whether it sounded its whistle. Passengers later reported that they had not heard the train's whistle or noticed a reduction in speed. One passenger noted that the railroad crossing lights were blinking when she evacuated the train.
