Attorney Charles Douglas III Earns 2015 Top Lawyer Rating

    CONCORD, NH, April 03, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Employment Attorney and former State Supreme Court Justice for New Hampshire Charles Douglas III earned a Martindale-Hubbell 2015 Top Lawyer rating through his commitment to advocacy and almost 50 years of hard work and dedication. Mr. Douglas practices employment, malpractice and personal injury law as president of Douglas, Leonard & Garvey P.C., a seven-attorney, plaintiffs and employment law firm in Concord.

As a government major at the University of New Hampshire in 1961, Mr. Douglas found himself drawn to a career in law. His interest turned to taking on large corporate interests on behalf of clients who had been treated unjustly, sealing his commitment to employment law, which he has practiced for 47 years. Mr. Douglas received a BA from the University of New Hampshire in 1965, and a JD from Boston University Law School, graduating cum laude in 1968. He was admitted to the New Hampshire State Bar in 1968 and the Massachusetts State Bar in 1985.

A retired Colonel with the New Hampshire Army National Guard from 1968 to 1991, he served early in his career (from 1973 to 1974) as legal counsel and legislative counsel to Governor Meldrim Thomson Jr. Mr. Douglas also served as associate justice for the New Hampshire Superior Court from 1974 to 1976, as associate justice on the New Hampshire Supreme Court from 1977 to 1983, and as senior justice from 1983 to 1985.

Elected as a Republican to the 101st Congress in 1989, Mr. Douglas served as a U.S. Representative for the State of New Hampshire until 1991. An adjunct faculty member at the University of New Hampshire School of Law and at the American Bar Association's Appellate Judge's seminars, Mr. Douglas has also served as Chairman of the New Hampshire Constitution Bicentennial Education Commission. He is a member of the Constitutional Convention Study Commission.

In addition to publishing more than 40 articles, Mr. Douglas has authored two books: ''New Hampshire Practice and Procedure: Family Law" is the definitive source for New Hampshire divorce and family law proceedings used by New Hampshire divorce and family law attorneys and is frequently referred to in New Hampshire Supreme Court decisions. The ''New Hampshire Evidence Manual" is relied upon by New Hampshire lawyers and courts during litigation, and is cited by the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

Mr. Douglas is a member of the Merrimack County, Manchester, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Bar Associations. Since 2014, he has been legal counsel to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and he is a member of the New Hampshire Association for Justice.
