Evoque Innovations Reveals How the General Election Will Affect Small Businesses

With the closest election in recent history just around the corner, Evoque Innovations, a sales and marketing firm from Birmingham look at how the outcome could dramatically effect how small businesses operate within the UK.

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, April 05, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- At this stage of the year, many businesses would normally be using the data they've collected so far to begin planning for the future and map out any potential growth strategies. However, this year many businesses are reluctant to look towards the future, as due to the upcoming general election, the future is still highly uncertain. In what is being tipped as the closest election in recent years with Labour and the Conservatives currently neck and neck in opinion polls, legislation surrounding minimum wage, European exports and business taxes could be set to change dramatically. As a relatively small business themselves Evoque Innovations emphasise with the current mood of the UK's small business community. However the firm are choosing to remain optimistic that this uncertainty won't necessarily bring bad news come May. The firm believe that many of the main political parties have displayed at least a basic understanding of the importance of small businesses to the UK economy, and believe that this will be reflected in the changing legislation.

Both small and large parties have been noted as recognising the effect SMEs have had on the economy, from providing a more fruitful and varied jobs market to boosting the UKs wealth and consumer confidence, it would seem that small businesses are set to play an important role in many party manifestos. However there could still be major changes on the horizon for small businesses effecting key areas of how SMEs operate. Despite party manifestos official releases not being due till the end of April, experts have identified the potential changes small businesses should be aware of, Evoque Innovations have reviewed these changes and looked into what they could mean for the future of small businesses in the UK.

In terms of regulation small businesses may not see too much of a change as long as the one of the main three parties come into power. The coalition government introduced a policy that dictated that when a new piece of regulation is introduced, another must be considered for removal. By all accounts Labour have suggested that should they come in to power this policy will remain in place.

Labour has also stated that they will be establishing a small business administration to offer support and growth opportunities to the UKs growing community of small business owners. The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have already made some headway when it comes to SME support after launching their growth vouchers programme which is set to continue should either party come out on top in May.

As well as extra support the main parties have also expressed an interest in making it easier for small businesses to access funding. The British business bank which provides all kinds of funding and support is due to be expanded as long as one of the main parties comes into power.

Finally, late payments are set to be abolished, with both Labour and the Conservatives eager to make it a requirement of larger companies to be clear and open with regards to how long it will take for their suppliers to be paid, and own up when a payment has been late.
