With 23 years of experience in the legal field, Mr. Carter brings excellence in criminal defense to her position with Carter & Putnam LLC. The law firm provides representation in the areas of criminal defense, DWI, personal injury, wrongful death and white-collar crime. In 2014, Ms. Carter was awarded the Kansas City Business Journal's prestigious Best of the Bar award.
Ms. Carter opened her lauded firm in 2010, with a focus on criminal defense, DWI and serious personal injury. Prior, she worked as an assistant public defender and in private practice for the firm of Powers & Associates. She later moved to London, England, where she became licensed to practice law, and went to work for the firm of Foster Wells in Aldershot, Hampshire, UK, for five years. She worked with Foster Wells and became accredited in police station representation, Magistrates Court representation, and obtained the designation of Duty Solicitor.
Ms. Carter obtained higher rights of audience and received the lifetime designation of Solicitor Advocate, allowing her to practice in all the criminal courts in England and Wales. Interestingly, she is one of the only dual qualified Solicitor Advocates in the world. She represents clients in many countries, and has spent time in Iraq representing soldiers accused of committing crimes, ranging from assault to murder. She routinely travels to England, where she teaches comparative criminal law at Oxford University.
An alumna of the University of Missouri, Ms. Carter earned a JD. She was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliations with the Law Society of England and Wales, Missouri and Kansas Bar Association, Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
