Aldebaran Hosts 2015 National Robotics Week Events to Advance STEM Education

Aldebaran is hosting a series of US events during the month of April as part of the sixth annual National Robotics Week 2015 (NRW), a national movement celebrating the US as a leader in robotics technology development.

PARIS, FRANCE, April 09, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aldebaran, the world leader in humanoid robotics, is hosting a series of US events during the month of April as part of the sixth annual National Robotics Week 2015 (NRW), a national movement celebrating the US as a leader in robotics technology development.

As part of NRW, Aldebaran, a 2015 NRW Advisory Council member, will be hosting workshops at schools around the States that are taking part in the week's activities. Participating schools will receive exclusive access to code on Aldebaran's humanoid robot NAO, the world's first versatile and programmable humanoid robot that is today used as a standard platform for students studying STEM from elementary schools through the university level.

Aldebaran's involvement in National Robotics Week reflects its continued commitment to providing students a fun and engaging way to hone their STEM and programming skills and prepare them for the technology careers of tomorrow. With Aldebaran's proprietary software, Choregraphe students can program NAO to have different behaviors, enabling the robot to walk, dance, talk and interact with students. Currently, more than 7,000 NAOs are being used in more than 70 countries as a platform for education, research and innovation.

Throughout the month of April, Aldebaran is hosting workshops and NAO demonstrations at the following events:

• Friday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. EDT: NAO Workshops (with demos) will take place at the Children's Museum of the Upstate in Greenville, South Carolina.
• Saturday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. EDT: NAO Workshops (with demos) will take place at the Imagine Upstate Festival in Greenville, South Carolina.
• Friday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. EDT: NAO Workshops (with demos) will take place at the Museum of Science in Tampa, Florida. General demonstrations will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, April 19th: NAO Workshops (with demos) will take place at the RoboCup Junior Event in New York, New York.

In addition to these registered events, schools that have a NAO robot in their classrooms are invited to enter the NRW NAO Contest in April, which assesses the best use case demonstrating robotics enhancing the classroom environment. Personalized workshops are also being offered to schools that don't have a NAO in the classroom, providing students and teachers hands-on coding and programming opportunities.

"We're honored to be part of the Advisory Council and lead this year's National Robotics Week," commented Laura Bokobza, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Aldebaran. "As a pioneer in humanoid robotics, Aldebaran is committed to bringing STEM education to life through NAO's interactive channels. Engaging in National Robotics Week will enable us to bring NAO to the national stage, which is critical to broadening awareness around the positive impact humanoid robotics have on society, both now and in the future."
