Robert L. Kaufman Honored for Excellence in Civil Litigation

    COSTA MESA, CA, April 08, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert L. Kaufman, Senior Trial Counsel of Woodruff, Spradlin & Smart A Professional Corporation, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in civil litigation.

Mr. Kaufman has 40 years of legal experience, with two years as a senior trial counsel of Woodruff, Spradlin & Smart A Professional Corporation. In this role, he focuses on civil litigation, expert witness consultation and testimony, as well as mediation and arbitration work in attorney fee disputes. Mr. Kaufman is a certified expert in attorney fees and legal billing disputes by the National Association of Legal Fee Analysis On a daily basis, he is responsible for representing clients through civil litigation and trial defense, with a focus on public entities, insurance companies and their clients.

From 1985 to 1989, Mr. Kaufman specialized in appellate law. He has been the principal counsel in 125 appellate cases across the country, including briefing and arguing such landmark cases as Brown v. Superior Court and Jolly v. Abbott Laboratories, et al. (both decided by the California Supreme Court in 1988), as well as Hegyes v. George (California Court of Appeal, 1991).

Mr. Kaufman was a senior partner at Haight, Brown & Bonesteel for 22 years. From 1975 to 1979, he was with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office as a Deputy District Attorney. Mr. Kaufman has been an instructor at the Jack Daniels Trial Academy of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He also completed coursework for a pre-med major.

Mr. Kaufman served on the Joint Committee of the State Bar, California Judges Association and Judicial Council, which first re-wrote the California Rules of Court to make them uniform state-wide. A past-president of the Santa Monica Bar Association, he was the founder and thrice president of the L.A. West Inn of Court. Looking back, Mr. Kaufman attributes his success to his passion for law and the work that he does. He became involved in his profession because he wanted to make a difference in society and help people.

Mr. Kaufman received a JD from UCLA School of Law in 1975, having completed coursework in pre-med from the University of Southern California. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of Southern California in 1971. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the American Association of Trial Attorneys, the Southern California Defense Counsel and the American Board of Trial Advocates. In recognition of his professional excellence, Mr. Kaufman has been named as a top attorney in Southern California in 2014 and 2015. In the near future, Mr. Kaufman intends to remain working full time, and experience continued growth and success through the practice.
