VELUX America AIA CES Course Available. Benefits of Daylight and Fresh Air in Residential Design Explained

VELUX America now offers an AIA continuing education system presentation* on the benefits of daylight and fresh air in residential design.

FORT MILLS, SC, June 08, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- VELUX America now offers an AIA continuing education system presentation* on the benefits of daylight and fresh air in residential design.

The one hour presentation focuses on daylighting and top lighting benefits, fresh air and natural ventilation benefits provided by skylights and vertical windows, thermal comfort standards and measures related to natural ventilation, and energy efficiency associated with skylights from both a lighting and natural ventilation standpoint as they relate to cooling and heating loads.

According to Stephan Moyon, director of sales for VELUX America, the presentation is targeted specifically to architects for CES credits but is also applicable to designers and lighting designers, developers, builders and remodelers, general contractors, government and private agencies and other audiences.

"The presentation examines the benefits of fresh air and natural ventilation as provided by skylights and vertical windows," Moyon says, "and the content stresses that indoor climate and air quality is as important, if not more so, than the outdoors environment since we spend a significant amount of our time each day in our homes." Indoor climate combines all the elements of temperature, humidity, lighting, air quality and ventilation in residential structures.

Moyon says that the presentation content covers the use of natural light in residential design in general terms as well as what skylights can specifically provide incrementally. "Recent case studies and research, which show that skylights can be the most energy efficient way to daylight a space, are covered in detail," he says.

Course content includes findings from a recent study related to energy balance and how skylights can help to significantly reduce, or even eliminate, the need for mechanical cooling in some climates.

Also examined is how skylights can help contribute to an energy efficient home design where a better daylight factor is achieved while reducing the overall fenestration area.
