"The B.A. in Criminology & Justice Studies really gives our students the potential to take on leadership roles in repairing relationships between communities and law enforcement" - Dean Schroder

SAN MARCOS, CA, June 04, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the recent unrest in cities throughout the country, a national dialogue has been opened up about how to improve relations between communities, public officials, and the officers charged with protecting them. Cal State San Marcos at Temecula offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology & Justice Studies that positions graduates to take an active role in that conversation. An information session to be held June 9, 2015 at the Margarita Road Campus of CSUSM at Temecula will allow prospective students to learn more about the program and meet some of the faculty.

The Criminology & Justice Studies program at CSUSM Temecula takes a holistic and humanistic orientation toward understanding crime and justice. Rather than focusing on vocational training for police or corrections work, the program draws on the intellectual traditions of sociology and criminology. Through this, students gain an understanding of the complex relationships between the structure and workings of the justice system and the various dimensions of inequality in the United States. The program culminates with a Capstone Seminar in Community Service that gives students hands-on experience working in an organization that provides service to the local community.

"The B.A. in Criminology & Justice Studies really gives our students the potential to take on leadership roles in repairing relationships between communities and law enforcement," comments Mike Schroder, Dean of Extended Learning at CSUSM. "The program gives them both the deep theoretical background and with the Capstone Seminar, the hands-on knowledge, to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives and to make informed decisions. Students can go on to careers in government, law, social services, law enforcement and corrections, or the nonprofit sphere."

The bachelor's degree program in Criminology & Justice Studies at CSUSM Temecula is now accepting applications for Fall 2015. A free information session will take place Tuesday, June 9, from noon to 1 pm in Room 101 of the Temecula Margarita Road Campus located at 43890 Margarita Road in Temecula.
