The Bottom Line on Airlines Tricking You

BIG SURPRISE: The Airlines are NOT Telling You...

"Remain vigilant about your rights while flying but most of all, ENJOY your summer!" states Sarah Hiner, CEO & Pres, Bottom Line Publications.

STAMFORD, CT, June 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Airline travel is always daunting, but during the summer months it can be especially frustrating to get a good deal, a decent flight, and the right seats while not being charged all those incidental fees that the airlines have been piling on in recent years. These fees add up, sometimes costing you more than your flight!

In the July 1, 2015 issue of Bottom Line Personal, one of Bottom Line's travel experts, George Hobica, founder of AirfareWatchdog, a website that reports on airfare bargains including unannounced, unadvertised rates, tells Bottom Line Personal readers how to improve the chances of getting a good deal and a flight that meets their needs by knowing what to watch out for.

The airline industry is very tricky about their growing list of fees and their hidden rules, so it is more important than ever to read between the lines and be at the top of your game in order to survive the maze of airline deals and no deals. Before you book your next flight, you may want to ask yourself the following questions:

-How do I Avoid the Surchargers?
Advice - Different airlines have added different surcharges since fuel prices went sky high in 2008. Whether you are using money or frequent-flier miles, shop around. A partner airline or a competing airline might charge a lot less because of different surcharges.

-If you don't get the upgrade you paid for, where's the money?
Advice - Call the airline, explain that you did not get the upgrade you paid for, and ask that your fee be refunded to you. Airlines typically back down when confronted about this.

-Will I actually have any options with my non-refundable ticket if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
Advice- If your flight is canceled or delayed so long that the trip no longer makes sense--or if you are able to obtain a better flight from a competing airline--tell an airline representative that you want a refund, not a later flight.

"Summer travel is supposed to be fun and easy. Sadly the challenges of flying can cut into that fun. Far better is to know what you can do to make the airlines accountable for delays and unexplainable fees in your travel plans. That's why we are fortunate to have Bottom Line Personal expert George Hobica who can help people avoid or minimize the frustrations so they can get to the fun of their trip...while spending less money ,"states Sarah Hiner, CEO and President, Bottom Line Publications. "Remain vigilant about your rights while flying but most of all, ENJOY your summer!"
