O'Connor Marketing: Small Business Ombudsman Could Take the Strain off First Time Entrepreneurs

Once a new legislation is passed in parliament, Australian small businesses could soon be welcoming a small business ombudsman. O'Connor Marketing review how having a specialised small business ombudsman could help SMEs in Australia thrive.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, June 17, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Whilst small business creation continues to rise in Australia, the red tape and legislation surrounding small businesses is thought to still be a major contributing factor to many budding entrepreneurs deciding not to follow their business dreams. However, sales and marketing specialists and entrepreneurship advocates O'Connor Marketing believe that new legislation recently introduced to Parliament could soon be set to eliminate the stress associated with establishing a new small business.

The Australian government's small business evangelist has introduced the legislation in a commitment to honour promises made during the election that more would be done to support small businesses and manage red tape. The legislations would see the introduction of a Small Business Ombudsman whose role would be to not only provide support and guidance to entrepreneurs struggling with business legislation, but to also act as a concierge for dispute resolution and a voice for the small business community in order to make commonwealth rules more friendly to small businesses.

Whilst in Parliament recently Small Business Minister Bruce Bilson backed the legislation and stated that the Australian Government needs to do more to recognise the differences in resources between large organisations and small businesses. For too long it's been assumed that all businesses have their own accounting and legal departments, however for small businesses with limited experience and smaller workforces handling issues concerning taxes and compliance, it can be a major headache and many feel unsupported and vulnerable when dealing with such demands. With more than 2 million small businesses in Australia, 70% of which being family enterprises, Bilson is keen to see the government take action and show these businesses just how important they are to both the economy and national morale.

O'Connor Marketing are thrilled to see members of the government fighting for the rights of small business owners and entrepreneurs and believe that the decision to instate a small business ombudsman could drastically increase the number of younger, less experienced entrepreneurs who have the potential to inject some much needed creativity and innovation into the business world. The firm believe that whilst these individuals are incredibly talented and have the potential to bring new perspectives to business; many lack the confidence to take on the financial and legal challenges of business. Having a small business ombudsman on their side to provide clarity and support in these areas and reduce the red tape will make entrepreneurship more accessible to everyone and help young people to recognise and make the most of the wide range of opportunities out there.
