LAS VEGAS, NV, June 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Jack Abrams, has performed Southern Nevada's first femtosecond laser assisted corneal transplant, or Intralase-Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK), at Abrams Eye Institute.

This places Dr. Abrams in an elite group of surgeons worldwide who have performed the IEK, laser corneal transplant procedure. Dr. Abrams is also the first surgeon in Nevada to perform Laser assisted cataract surgery and laser assisted KAMRA Inlay procedure.

The procedure, which took place on June 17, 2015 went smoothly as expected and the post-operative outcome is delivering on the promise that femtosecond laser technology holds for cornea surgery. That promise is - improved post-operative recovery time, reduced levels of post-operative astigmatism, and quicker visual rehabilitation.

Femtosecond laser technology creates incisions in the cornea of both the patient and the donor tissue so that the pieces interlock. This interlocking incision strengthens the adherence of the donor tissue and results in reduced post-operative recovery time.

Said Dr. Abrams, "The goal of any surgery is to reduce any variables that may affect patients' outcome. This laser technology is the most advanced technique to reduce those variables in corneal transplantation and provide the best quality of vision for our patients".

This is a ground breaking step forward in health care for the state of Nevada and further solidifies Abrams Eye Institute as the preeminent center for eye care in Southern Nevada. All made possible by the skill and training of Dr. Abrams and the use of advanced laser technology at Abrams Eye Institute.
