Backed by four decades of legal experience, Mr. Heiting is a past President of (all the lawyers in) the State Bar of California. Mr. Heiting is a renowned trial attorney and the managing partner of Heiting & Irwin. He has extensive experience in very successfully handling cases involving wrongful death, personal injury, professional malpractice and all sorts of cases involving serious injuries and/or death as a result of the conduct of others. Mr. Heiting and his firm have been awarded or recovered hundreds of millions of dollars for their clients.

Mr. Heiting actively participates in various local, state, and national legal organizations including having served as President of the State Bar of California (2005-2006); Treasurer and Vice-President of the State Bar (2004-2005); and member of the State Bar Board of Governors (2002-2004); member (since 1977) and President (1996-1997) of the Riverside County Bar Association; co-founder and board member of The Leo A. Deegan American Inn of Court (1992-1996); co-founder of the local chapter of the Federal Bar Association (1996); judge pro tempore, arbitrator, mediator, and member of a variety of bar associations throughout the state. He has been an active member of various federal and state litigation, ethics, and trial associations; and he has served as a Commissioner, overseeing eight western states, of the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs, appointed for three consecutive terms by three American Bar Association presidents.

Even with his very active professional life, Mr. Heiting has demonstrated his excellence in community leadership by selflessly devoting an extensive amount of time serving on boards, committees, and councils of many organizations, civic and professional, including the American Society of Law and Medicine, Nu Beta Epsilon National Law Fraternity, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, Nelson House, and Betty Ford Center. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors (1988-2003) and President and Chairman of the Board (1991-1993) of The Other Bar (a statewide non-profit organization of judges and lawyers helping other lawyers and judges suffering from alcohol or chemical dependency problems). He is also the founder of the Lawyers' School of Ethics in Advocacy (1999) and author of the Guidelines of Professional Courtesy and Civility.

Mr. Heiting was awarded the Ralph A. Krieger Meritorious Service Award (2009), acknowledging significant community service and outstanding civic achievement, the highest award possible from the Riverside County Bar Association. On October 23, 2014, the San Bernardino County Bar Association presented Mr. Heiting with the Florentino Garza Fortitude Award, to recognize and honor him as a very highly distinguished member of the bar. He is currently a Vice Chair of the Substance Use Disorders Task Force of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association and President of both the Riverside Lyric Opera and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association of California.
