Meso Takes A Hike

4th Annual 5K Walk/Hike for Mesothelioma Research on Mesothelioma Awareness Day

"We walked together in memory of my father, Chuck Jarvis Sr., who was a wonderful man who passed away from this disease," said Chuck Jarvis Jr. after last year's walk.

AGOURA HILLS, CA, August 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Pacific Meso Center at the Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute will hold its fourth annual 5K Walk/Hike for Meso on September 27, 2015, Mesothelioma Awareness Day, at the Paramount Ranch, 2903 Cornell Rd. With the previous year's success of 260 participants and over $100,000 raised, PMC hopes to increase participation this year with additional prizes and fun activities for the whole family. PMC's mission is to find better treatments for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), an asbestos-related form of cancer that affects almost 3,000 people in the US each year, one third of whom are veterans.

Presented by Worthington & Caron, P.C, the event brings together people who can personally relate to the cause. Teams, consisting of family members and friends of those who died of mesothelioma, as well as supporting organizations and individual walkers and volunteers will gather together to raise awareness and funds. Each registrant receives a free T-shirt and a cooling necktie before leaving on the 5K or 1-mile hike, and a medal upon completion. For participants that do not want to walk or hike, bingo will be available.

Lunch will be catered by Camarillo-based Ottavio's Italian Restaurant, whose founder also passed away from mesothelioma. Featured prize items include a photo safari for two in South Africa, 25 piece guitar set signed by artist Randy Jackson, an SLS Hotel weekend getaway and dinner package and a beautiful vintage diamond and silver pendant donated by Captain's Treasure Chest.

Opportunity drawing includes items such as gift baskets, dining, and entertainment/adventure certificates.

"We walked together in memory of my father, Chuck Jarvis Sr., who was a wonderful man who passed away from this disease," said Chuck Jarvis Jr. after last year's walk. "It is important to me and my family that we continue to fight in his honor."

The Pacific Meso Center at the Pacific Heart, Lung & Blood Institute is a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical research institute that provides the promise of future treatment breakthroughs by exploring innovative ideas, educating the public on asbestos-related diseases and finding the best treatment options for newly diagnosed patients with MPM.
