ATLANTA, GA, August 26, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- He is stylish...He is even chic...He is the Celebrity Chef you definitely want for your on site event. Chef Durio found himself on the front line of the battle field when Hurricane Katrina struck 10 years ago in New Orleans, La. Today, he shares those lessons learned and the impact on his life.

Along with everyone else, Cool Chef Joe Durio, a newly wed for only about 2 months, lost everything during Katrina. However, when he received the call from the City of New Orleans officials to help with feeding the nurses, American Red Cross, National Guards, Katrina survivors and other volunteers, it allowed him to focus on being of service in a time of need. This request to cook and be of service kept him so occupied, he had little time to focus on his own losses.

During that time, for about one and half years, Chef Durio estimates that he feed over 500,000 meals to the workers, National Guards, nurses, American Red Cross volunteers and residents of New Orleans. He called upon his friends and relationships he had built in 10 other countries to send food to New Orleans for Katrina survivors.

He saw so much suffering due to obesity that brought on health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, etc. amongst people, that he began to ask what more could he do. "I begin to ask myself, What is it that can I do to help out more?" Cooking was his passion and all he knew and was a gift handed to him from his grandmother. It was in that moment of questioning, he decided to focus on healthy eating as a way he could help out and do more. While cooking and serving the Katrina survivors, it proved to be a healing experience and the very thing that he needed to get through those hard times. "It gave me a sense of purpose," says Chef Durio.

His efforts and labor of love led him to receive Chef of the Year Award from the City of New Orleans and also from the State of Louisiana, both in 2006. And from there he received the highest honor ever from The White House, President Barack Obama, for the Unsung Hero Award in 2014. He is the first chef to receive this Unsung Hero Award.. He continues to work on improving the health and reducing obesity in youth today through the Let's Move initiative campaign.

As a Celebrity Chef, he has catered many star studded events with celebrities, sports stars in the NBA, NFL, MLB, Soccer, special corporate events, etc. He says this is where he has his most fun, watching the people enjoy the heart healthy cuisine he has prepared with care. His food service business, Heart Healthy International Cuisine, has allowed him to provide tasty, low sodium, affordable and time saving meals. He also provides retail and bulk sales to schools, universities, casinos, municipalities, hospitals, conferences institutions, etc.

He believes in the saying, "When God closes one door, another one opens." Since Katrina, Chef Durio has been able to rebuild his life with his wife and continues to feed the multitudes...He says he is grateful for his life and the lives of his loved ones.
