Hastings and Hastings, Arizona's premier discount accident lawyers, wants to do everything it can to help keep Arizona roads safe.

PHOENIX, AZ, September 04, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hastings & Hastings believes that one of the best ways to accomplish this is through educating the public on the dangers of driving while drowsy. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention attributes as many as 6,000 fatalities a year to drowsy drivers.

Many drivers may not even be aware that they are driving while drowsy. The symptoms of drowsy driving are subtle and can sneak up on people. The CDC asks that if drivers experience any of the following symptoms of drowsy driving, they pull over to rest or change drivers immediately: Yawning or frequent blinking, difficulty with short term memory, drifting, attention loss, or trouble focusing. Driving while drowsy slows reaction times and hinders drivers' abilities to make proper decisions, much like drinking. Further, driving while sleepy or fatigued can impact an individual's mood and temperament which could lead to additional repercussions such as road rage.

The CDC's statistics further report that adults age 18-29 are more likely to drive drowsy than any other age group, while men are much more likely to drive drowsy than women. These demographics in particular should be made aware of the risks of drowsy driving.

The steps for combating drowsy driving are simple. Research has established that the average individual requires anywhere from six to eight hours of sleep a night. Avoid getting behind the wheel of a car if you have not been able to get proper rest the night before. It is possible to exhibit the symptoms of drowsy driving even if individuals believe they are relatively alert.

The National Sleep Foundation has created Drowsydriving.org as a resource to help education the public on the dangers of drowsy driving. It provides facts on the realities of drowsy driving and even provides a pledge people can take to help stand against drowsy driving. They also promote drowsy driving prevention week from November 2nd - 9th.

Hastings & Hastings stands with the CDC and the National Sleep Foundation as they take their stance against drowsy driving.
