Los Angeles Consumer Protection Attorney Howard Silver Now Accepting Volkswagen Emissions Cases

Automaker could issue recall, might face billions in fees for software that falsifies emissions data

The actions taken by VW are troubling, especially with regard to consumers who purchased one of the affected vehicles.

OAK PARK, CA, September 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Consumers living in California may have legal recourse if they bought one of the estimated 11 million Volkswagen vehicles affected by the manufacturer's recent emissions scandal. Howard Silver announced Thursday that his law firm is prepared to initiate consumer fraud lawsuits on behalf of those who bought VW vehicles outfitted with software designed to fool emissions tests.

"The actions taken by VW are troubling, especially with regard to consumers who purchased one of the affected vehicles," Silver said. "Please contact the Law Office of Howard Silver for assistance with a potential claim."

Silver said a consumer fraud lawsuit can help vehicle owners recoup the expense they incurred by buying a car manufactured by a corporation engaging in unfair or deceptive business practices.

The software installed by Volkswagen was used to "[trick] regulators into believing that four-cylinder diesel cars comply with emissions standards," according to USA Today. In reality, the vehicles were emitting pollutants at rates of up to 40 times higher than the amounts allowed by regulations.

Vehicles with the deceptive software include four-cylinder diesel models of the 2014 and 2015 Volkswagen Passat, as well as models from 2009 to 2015 of the Audi A3, Beetle, Jetta and Golf, also with four-cylinder diesel engines. The automaker is expected to issue a recall, and could face a fine of up to $18 billion from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
